The DOP
is a dignity financing collective.

We finance dignity for people living in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda.

We believe dignity is the opposite of poverty. Dignity is freedom. It is choice.
It is having control over decisions in our lives.

We believe self reliance and personal empowerment are the path to a dignified life.
If you believe the same, welcome the Department of Possibility.

Approach

Loans

From microcredit to microdignity

We offer interest free, collateral free loans to self governing savings groups. We do not support fear based collection tactics. We’ve financed over 70 groups (2,000 people) with a repayment rate of over 95%.

Jobs

From handouts to hands up

Personal empowerment and the dignity of work go hand in hand. We finance entrepreneurs whose businesses grow when they train and employ people.

Children

From idle to involved

We believe children are the greatest underestimated forces for a dignified future and we’re committed to financing their possibility.

Health

From village banks to village health

Loans and jobs are core to empowerment, and so is healing from trauma. We’ve just begun to explore partnerships that can layer healing services into our savings groups and beyond.

Climate

From limits to possibilities

Refugee settlements are on the front lines of climate change. We are creating a love army of young people who are deeply invested in unlocking new possibilities. Starting with reforestation.
